Chinese Firm Star Times has finally taken over the control and operations of state owned Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation TV and has ordered it to cancel its partnership with Multi-Choice and GOtv Zambia.
Under unclear circumstance ZNBC on Saturday without notice to its partners GOtv and Multichoice switched off a number of channels showing on the GOtv bouquet and added them to a new television bouquet, Star Times.
Multi-Choice Zambia says it find it strange and surprising that preference is now given to a Chinese partner Star Times in the market under unexplained circumstances.
The public broadcaster had a tough time to explain to Multi-choice why it shut over 10 local television stations from the GOtv bouquet and exclusively show on Star Times.
The move was not fully explained to Multi-choice, a company which owns the GOtv bouquet and has had a long-standing relationship the national broadcaster.
And multi-choice has asked government to investigate and intervene as this will strain the relationship between the institutions.
Star Times sees GOtv as a strong competitor after being on the market for over 3 years and offering bouquets as low as 30 kwacha.
