People of Kapande village in Chief Chipepo of Kapiri Mposhi district have called for relief food to avert hunger in the area due to poor harvest because most of the farmers were not paid on time in order for them to buy inputs for the 2015/2016 farming season.
Village headman Kapande disclosed that the poor crop out put was due to the delayed payment and late delivery of inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme, high cost of fertiliser and general inconsistencies by the PF government.
The traditional leader has appealed for government to quickly avert the looming food shortage and poverty in the area. He said that the peasant farmers were no longer able to send their children to school because they have no money.
Headman Kapande further complained that government has failed to provide enough boreholes in the area thereby leading to villagers drinking from the same dam with their cattle.
He revealed the sad development to central province permanent secretary Daisy Ngambi who admitted the shortcomings but promised to address the concerns.
