JOY FM Station Manager Zachariah Banda was on Monday morning visited by state agents (plain clothed policemen) over a phone in program ‘Headline Feedback’ where one caller described President Michael Sata as an idiot.
The program whose topic was ‘street vending’ attracted a lot of mixed feelings from callers around Lusaka following the President’s pronouncement that vendors must stay and continue their business on the street.
Immediately the program ended the state agents arrived at JOY FM and took the presenter, Webster Chinyamba and Station Manager as they wanted to obtain information and possibly track down the caller.
The state agents were by 11 hours local time questioning Banda and Chinyamba to help trace the caller.
Last week president Sata ordered local authorities to stop removing vendors from the street saying doing so will make his government unpopular.
The storming of Joy FM is the latest show of intolerance for freedom of speech and press freedom by the PG regime.
Last week, foreign affairs minister Chishimba Kambwili threatened Muvi TV and Zambian Watchdog for exposing president Sata’s misconduct while he was in Uganda.
