State enters Nolle prosequi in HH defamation of Sata case

PF government prosecutors have entered a Nolle prosequi in a case where UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is accused of defaming dictator Michael Sata.

A Nolle prosequi literally means ‘do not prosecute’ and is an instruction from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The matter was supposed to be heard by Magistrate Boniface Mwiinga but when the matter came up, the prosecutors said they will not pursue the matter.

This is in a case in which Hichilema was accused of  defaming Sata.

Particulars of the accusation were  that Hichilema on January 13 last year in Lusaka revealed that Sata  ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission to stop investigations against Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba.

Accroding to the police, this was defamatory to president Michael Sata and decided to arrest Hichilema.
