Zambia State House is in the process of funding students to demonstrate against the Post Newspaper, highly placed sources have disclosed to the Watchdog.
Some students from the University of Zambia, Evelyn Hone College, NRDC and NIPA are expected to take to the streets to demonstrate against what they deem to be biased journalism by the country’s only daily privately-owned newspaper.
The students will also storm the offices of the Post newspapers to vent their anger.
Sources say the project is being coordinated by President Rupiah Banda’s Special Advisor for Political Affairs Francis Chigunta.
Chigunta has so far asked the students to give him a budget for the demonstrations, sources say.
The students have already submitted a K20 million budget to Chigunta.
The students have also written to Sam Phiri, the permanent secretary at the ministry of Information and broadcasting to see how the ministry can help achieve the objective.
Students are now soliciting support from NGOs to join the demonstrations whose date has not yet been set.
