Strike by council workers spreads to Chipata and Livingstone

Local Authorities workers across the country have not been paid for two months.

In Livingstone, council workers (in the photo) withdrew labour and sat in the shades and chatted the whole day on Tuesday.

At Chipata Municipal Council, the strike has entered day two with all the workers withdrawing labour over government’s failure to pay them the two months salaries.

A check by Muvi Tv at the council premises found security guards only who were turning away clients as no employee was available.

And Chipata Town Clerk Ekan Chingangu confirmed to Muvi Tv that the workers have downed tool demanding their two months salaries.

Mr. Chingangu further disclosed that the workers feel neglected by government saying government increased salaries to civil servants without considering the local authority workers.
