Supreme court throws out bid to block MP Kakoma

The Supreme Court has thrown out an appeal by losing Patriotic Front Zambezi West candidate Cristobel Ngimbu who wanted UPND candidate Charles Kakoma blocked from recontesting the seat.

Sitting in Ndola on Tuesday, the court ruled that Ms. Ngimbu’s application had no merit and was vexatious. The PF had hoped that once Kakoma was barred, the ruling would have been replicated to other four constituencies.

The Zambian Watchdog last week uncovered a ploy in which PF lawyer Bonaventure Mutale had connived with Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda to block opposition candidates from contesting. Mr. Kakoma was represented by Gilbert Phiri of PNP Advocates, Keith Mweemba of Keith Mweemba Associates and Martha Mushipi of Martha Mushipi and Company.
