Suspected Congolese soldiers attack police officers at Kasumbalesa

 

image imageOne Police Officer is battling for his life at the mine hospital in Chililabombwe after him and his colleague were attacked by heavily armed criminals who happen to be soldiers from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) around 01:30 hours today, police sources in Chililabombwe have confirmed.
Reports say at 01:30 hrs today Constable Libingi based at Chililabombwe Police Station was performing his duties with his colleague Constable Mulwani George when they met their fate.
“When Const Libingi went for a patrol using his person motor vehicle, he come back found his colleague and started giving him the report concerning the situation in the area he was patrolling.
Ten minutes later both constables heard some footsteps and Constable Libingi saw three people 3 mitres away from the main inquires door he talked to them and said they had brought a report concerning some criminal activities in the area. But as he was looking at them, he noticed the barrel of a gun to one of the criminals who was in a camaflag shirt and said to his colleague “boi aba soja ba ku Congo ” and rushed to get his gun but unfortunately, criminals already had a bullet in their gun’s chamber and ordered the two officers to sleep on the floor”, said the source.
The source added that as a trained security officer, Const Libingi refused to lie down and tried switch on the bulb so that he could identify the criminals by sight but in vain as the criminals had managed to catch him before he could switch on the lights, beat him up before ordering him to lie down on the floor.
The criminals then ordered the two police officers to surrender their money and the keys to the vehicle that belongs to one of the officers (Constable Libingi). But the two officers prevailed as they cheated the criminals that they were not the owners of the car but that it belonged to a member of the public who was packing his vehicle for security reasons and that he also went with his keys to his house.
” The situation was bad my dear. As Constable Libingi was lying next to Const Mulwani he had to put his head on Const Mulwani’s hip with the aim of signaling his friend to stop answering the heavily armed criminals as they were capable of killing them both. But unfortunately Const Libingi moved his head and the bullet had to hit Const Mulwani’s thigh”, explained the source.
After the shooting the officer, the Congolese criminals then searched the two officers and got the keys to the red box. Sadly, they even had access to the 3 magazines and ammunition and took money belonging to the suspects.
“But by the Grace of God, the criminals’ further plans were interrupted by the vehicle which was coming to the police station driven by one member of the public. To them, it was a group of police officers who were called to rescue us and so they runway.
After the miracle, the injured Constable Mulwani was taken to the mine hospital for treatment where he is still admitted up to now and his condition is stable”.
The officers who were attacked have confirmed that they identified their attackers as Congolese Soldiers who operate from the Congo – Zambian Border and that they can be able to point at them if there was a criminal identification parade for all Congolese Soldiers who operate at the border with high criminal activities. The Criminal Soldiers were also accompanied by two civilians who sake merchandise in Zambia.
Before they escaped, the heavily armed criminals had said that they were sent to kill the Criminal Investigating Officer (C.I.O) whom they accused of arresting their fellow criminals therefore hampering their effort of killing and stealing from Zambians.
The police officers in Chililabombwe are now appealing to the District Commissioner and the Police IG including all relevant authority to look into the plight of police officers based at Kasumbalesa Border post by sending more officers and better defense equipment to deal with the criminals from the neighboring Congo who are terrorizing both Zambian Citizens and Police Officers.
Constable Mulwani has joined a list of police officers who have been badly injured while on duty this year.
