Former Solwezi East MP Richard Taima has been attempting to rescind his resignation as MP after he was blatantly told by the PF that he would not be adopted.
According to highly placed PF sources, Richard Taima has been told that he will not contest the Solwezi East parliamentary by-election under PF as he is not able to win the seat.
Last year, the High Court nullified his seat before he appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has not passed its ruling but Taima was briefed that he stands no chance. He was duped and made to resign with a view of him contesting on PF when in fact not.
Impeccable sources have confirmed that Taima is in serious panic. After realising that he will not be adopted under PF, he rushed back to Parliament to seek audience with the speaker to inform him that he had rescinded his earlier stance to resign as an MMD MP. But speaker Patrick Matibini told him that he had already declared the seat vacant and that it was too late to reverse it.
In confusion, Taima went to UPND to persuade the opposition leadership to adopt him on UPND failure to which he would contest as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile there is panic in the PF camp as it is evident that there is no other suitable candidate to be adopted for Solwezi East and fears are already eminent to indicate another humiliating defeat like Lukulu especially if the news filtering that MMD and UPND in Northwestern want to field one candidate. PF on the other hand is busy trying to persuade a Mr Kandolondo from the teachers’ service commission to be its candidate.
But Kandolondolo is also a weak candidate. He came out second to Taima in MMD adoption process in 2011 but was quickly pushed for a job by Taima in PF government to lessen future competition.
PF is also trying to persuade Villie Lombanya, the possible candidate for MMD and UPND not to stand or stand on PF especially that his son is still serving in foreign mission in South Africa since Mwanawasa period and has not been recalled.
