Tell the truth on load shedding-UPND

United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president for politics Canisius Banda has Challenged the government to tell the nation the truth on what led to low water levels at Kariba dam.
And Banda has said that the PF government was spending money on by-elections and President Lungu’s foreign trips at the expense of investing in other sources of energy.
Banda said Thursday that the water needed to be drained to facilitate repairs on the cracks that threatened the Kariba dam walls but government was not explaining who got the tender and what has been done so far.
He claimed that the power shortage was as a result of water having been drained to facilitate repairs and partly because of the wrong type of machines being used to generate power.
He wondered how the country recorded a bumper harvest if there was poor rain and recalled that the country had recorded a terrible drought in 1991/ 92 season yet there was no load shedding as is being experienced now.
And Banda has said that the PF government was spending money on by-elections and President Lungu’s foreign trips at the expense of investing in other sources of energy.
He said the country should invest in other energy sources like wind and solar and use the huge water resources to put up more hydro power stations.
Meanwhile Banda has observed that the depreciation of the Kwacha was making repaying the country’s foreign debt more expensive because more Kwacha was needed to get dollars.
He further said there was more money being used on the expenditure side than on the production side.
He said there was need for financial discipline on the part of government, lowering the cost of production and increasing production in the agriculture sector.
