There is no constitutional provision for prisoners to vote-ECZ

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has rejected Home Affairs Minister Davis Mwila’s hallucination that prisoners will be allowed to vote in this year’s general elections.
ECZ Director Priscilla Isaacs has stated that there was no provision in the Zambian constitution that allowed prisoners to participate in elections.
Isaacs however tried to gloss over the contradiction with Mwila’s statement by saying that the Ministry of Home Affairs will issue a ‘clarification’ on the issue.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is now planning what to tell the nation in their ‘clarification’ following Mwila’s dull statement that there was provision in the law for prisoners to participate in voting.
And Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has wondered where Davis Mwila got authority to inform Zambians on electoral issues.
Mwanza said it was the duty of the Electoral Commission of Zambia to guide on who is eligible to vote and not Davis Mwila as Home Affairs Minister.
