Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) president Frank Bwalya has observed that there is nothing new, strange or commendable about the Zambia Police’s decision to let the Un…ited Party for National Development (UPND) hold a public rally last Sunday.
According to the Zambian law, the police should just be notified. There is no need to seek special permissions from the police.
Fr. Bwalya notes that the Police should not even be commended for the permit it granted the UNPD to hold a public rally in Lusaka’s Mandevu as the law provides for people in the country to only notify them about their intentions to hold a political public gathering and not to seek permission.
Fr. Bwalya says the freedoms and rights that people want to enjoy in the country are God given and the police should not be praised for making the enjoyment of such rights possible.
Fr. Bwalya said police are supposed to allow people enjoy their rights and freedoms unconditionally.
