‘Thieves’ break into DEC offices

thieves last night broke into the offices of the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Choma.

District Commissioner Laiven Apuleni who confirmed this to ZANIS in Choma this afternoon said the thieves broke into the DEC office around 01.00 hours early today.

Mr. Apuleni said the thieves gained entry into the offices situated at the district administration after cutting burglar bars using heavy duty equipment.

He said an alert security guard in the adjacent building raised alarm, forcing the thieves to flee.

Mr. Apuleni said DEC officers were still assessing whether any items had been stolen from the offices.

This is the second time that thieves have broken into the offices located at the district administration.

Last year, they broke into the district commissioner’s office and stole computers, valuable documents and other electronic equipment.

Heads of government departments occupying offices at the district administration have been calling for the deployment of armed police in order to protect government property from thefts.
