Thieves steal from Livingstone Church, arrested from graveyard

Five suspected criminals have been apprehended by Police in Livingstone for breaking into a Church.

The five are said to have broken into Mosi-oa-Tunya Baptist church, along Kombe drive at around 01 hours today.

Care taker at the church, Royce Siansunga told Zambezi fm news that the suspects gained entry into the church after tampering with the door.

And Mosi-oa-Tunya Baptist church secretary, Kohozya Zyambo explained that the suspects allegedly stole property worth over 10 million kwacha before being apprehended.

Dr Zyambo narrated that this is the third time thieves have broken into the church in three months and that there is need to intensify security in that area.

Meanwhile police Provincial Deputy Commissioner; Fred Mutondo has confirmed the arrest of the five suspects.

Mr. Mutondo says five of the six suspected criminals were apprehended at the old cemetery early this morning.

Mr. Mutondo said police had set up an ambush for the suspected criminals at the old cemetery after a tip off from a Taxi driver they had hired to ferry the stolen property.

The suspects had earlier stashed the stolen property at the old cemetery for ferrying at a later stage.

Mr. Mutondo added that the suspects were also found with two knives and an iron wheel spanner believed to have been used in the break-in.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday.
