They claim we have the lowest tarriffs in the region – so we should have because we have an abundance of water supply which they have failed to utilise. This is hydroelectric power. They are not burning deisel to produce electricity they are using a renewable resource.
They need to explain what they have to show for the last increase they made before committing us to another one in less than 2 years. Zesco have failed to manage demand and supply, they load shed on a daily basis and because of their load shedding coupled with the pre-poayment meter system they are losing revenue as whether they like it or not the consumer cannot pay for what they are not supplied with. The logical solution to this would be to do away with load shedding so that they collect more revenue but they cant. Its always excuses. Instead they expect the consumer to subsidize their incompetence, their big fat salaries and their funding to the party in power.
This is why I HATE parastatals they cost more to run that they produce. I say this white elephant be unbundled and be unbundled now.
I dont agree with the analysis by Zesco. For Example they wasnt correct every year based on inflation rate but I wander why they are proposing an increament than a reduction is inflation is an issue. in 2009 16.6 % inflation and they asked for 16% adjustment in tarrifs in 2010 we had 10.1% inflation but they asked for a higher figure 35%. Isn’t this madness. this chaps will raise cost of production
