Those arrested will suffer alone-President Lungu

After achieving his desire to arrest United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president Geoffrey Mwamba, outgoing President Edgar Lungu has bragged that his PF police will arrest anyone ‘disturbing peace’ in Zambia.
And the PF police threatened to close down their WhatsApp page which is composed of police officers and media personnel after they were quizzed on the brutality of police officers who were filmed brutalising a UPND supporter outside Woodlands police when Mr Mwamba appeared for questioning earlier in the week.
Addressing Itezhi- tezhi residents Friday afternoon, President Lungu claimed that he was not intimidating anyone by issuing the warning.
President Lungu mockingly said once arrested those disturbing the country’s peace will suffer alone and not with their political parties.
The PF police arrested Mr Mwamba Friday afternoon in order to make him suffer in police cells till Monday and by this evening his lawyers were still making efforts to have him released.
Scores of UPND supporters where waiting around Lusaka Central police and Levy Junction mall across the road for the release of their vice president.
And the PF police threatened to close down their WhatsApp page which is composed of police officers and media personnel after they were quizzed on the brutality of police officers who were filmed brutalising a UPND supporter outside Woodlands police when Mr Mwamba appeared for questioning earlier in the week.
Police sources from Force Headquarters told the watchdog that the page was almost closed down after the Police failed to answer questions on why the police was applying brutal force on an unarmed civilian.
‘We almost shut down that WhatsApp page because we could not defend the action of our officers who were filmed brutalising that UPND cadre, as you can see yourself that video is quite damaging to the police,’ said one police source.
Outgoing President and Commander in-Chief of the armed forces Edgar Lungu has so far failed to condemn the brutality by his police ‘militia’.
