More than 1,000 people will join the unemployment list as Audit Control Expertise (ACE) Global is placed on care and maintenance. There are also fears that the workers may not be paid their benefits in the midst of the uncertainty the company faces. More than 500 field staff have already been out of employment for the past four months but have not been paid their dues.
The development comes after the visit by the Dubai based CEO who came into the country last week and terminated contracts of several workers including the human resources manager sending workers into panic as they are not sure how their wages will be compiled.
After terminating their contracts, the workers were told that they would be paid their dues this week by Eco bank but now there has been notice that the bank will only pay after carrying out audits of stations dotted across the country. The workers have cried foul that the audit pre condition is aimed at creating some liability on the workers and escape paying them because the ware houses were already taken over by Nyiombo Fertilisers using the same collateral.
Last month the firm was exposed for not remitting statutory obligations to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) in spite of deducting the same from workers also faced the wrath of bailiffs.
