Three soccer fans die in Mazabuka after Chipolopolo victory

Three jubilant juvenile soccer fans in Mazabuka died on the spot in Mazabuka last night celebrating Zambia’s qualification to the Finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

And the University Teaching Hospital UTH has recorded 46 casualty cases following last nite football celebrations of the CHIPOLPOLO victory against Ghana. Out of these 13 are assault cases while 33 are Road Traffic Accidents! Two men in their 30s have  also been reported dead. Meanwhile residents of Kanyama ran amok after a motorist run over and a killed a resident in the excitement. The residents set a vehicle ablaze!

The Mazabuka trio died after an unregistered golf car rammed into them near radio Mazabuka.

The incident happened just a few minutes after Zambia booked a place into the

Afcon finals.

The soccer fans most of them boys and girls from nearby compounds took to the streets singing victorious songs after the match.

Justine Kawisha reports from Mazabuka that the fans were knocked down by a fast moving car as they descended into town from Radio Mazabuka were they had gone to register their excitement leaving 3 of them dead while more than 20 are battling for their lives at Mazabuka district hospital.

Mazabuka Mayor Lloyd Buumba and the town clerk Erof Hangoma were among the people that rushed to the hospital to check on the casualties.

Among the dead are 2 boys and 1 girl whose parents were not known by 23 hours.

A check at MAzabuka district hospital around 21:00 hours found medical officers attending to a huge number of casualties while the police had a tough times controlling soccer fans clad in national colours and sympathizers that thronged the hospital to check for relatives among casualties.
