Five men were arrested in the Mokopane area in connection with counterfeit cigarettes imported from Zambia, Limpopo police said on Sunday.
South African Press Agency (SAPA) quotes Captain Sedotfaro Motadi as saying three men along with two shop owners were arrested on Saturday night while off-loading the boxes at a local shop.
He said the three men were from Zambia and the two shop owners were from Pakistan.
The cigarettes had a street value of R1,1-million and were packaged in 150 boxes containing 50 cartons per box.
The men, aged between 28 and 32, would appear in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court soon and charged with possession of contraband.
