Time Ticking Away For Henry’s Lawyer

President Michael Sata has given a seven-day ultimatum to Robert Amsterdam, the lawyer representing former president Rupiah Banda’s son, Henry, to retract what he considers a defamatory media statement or face legal action.

Speaking through his lawyer, Bonaventure Mutale, the President has extended the ultimatum to the Daily Nation newspaper and is also demanding K500 million to be paid to him as damages.

Mr Mutale, of Ellis and Company, confirmed in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that he had written to Mr Amsterdam and that the ultimatum elapses after seven days from Friday last week when the letters were served.

“We have written a letter demanding the retraction and a timeframe has been given before we take further action,” he said.
