The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has refuted reports by the Times of (PF) Zambia that the party has changed its name to Movement for Mothers’ Democracy.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, MMD Deputy National Secretary, Chembe Nyangu, said the only thing the party has done is to add “Mothers Democracy” as its new slogan from “the hour has come.”
Mr Nyangu accused the Times of being malicious in their reporting and has since described the trend as unfortunate in the flourishing new democracy.
He stated that the party has decided to rebrand, saying the former ruling party is the mother of democracy in this country because it is the only party which is attributed to have brought democracy.
He bragged that it is only the MMD which is truly democratic because it is also the only party which has managed to change leaders for four times, namely President late Fredrick Chiluba, late Levy Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda and now Nevers Mumba.
He said no amount of media blackmailing will dissuade the party from re-organising itself in preparation for the 2016 elections which he said will be crucial because the party has devised a unique campaign strategy.
