Transparency international Zambia has sued the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation ZNBC and a Lusaka journalist Chanda Chimba the 3 for defamation.
TIZ has sued ZNBC and Mr. Chimba over a documentary called stand up Zambia aired on ZNBC on October 12 2010.
The organization has further asked the court to restrain ZNBC and Mr. Chimba from further broadcasting or publishing the said documentary or any other similar words and images.
According to a statement of claim filed in the high court TIZ claims the contents of the said documentary had defamatory words and images attributed to TIZ president Reuben Lifuka and Goodwell Lungu the executive director.
Transparency international Zambia further claims the words and images contained in the documentary where understood to mean that TIZ collects money from donors and cooperating partners and fraudulently used the said resources.
They further claim the words in question were calculated to disparage TIZ and that they have indeed caused injury to the organization.
Recently transparency international Zambia warned ZNBC and Mr. Chimba that it will take legal action if they did not apologize and pay 5 Billion Kwacha each over the said documentary.
