Corrupt MMD Chavuma MP Keneth Konga says Edgar Lungu is the right man for the job. Konga was among the MMD members who ‘defected’ to PF or went to receive Lungu visited Northwestern province last week. Konga is one of the witnesses in the case in which former president Rupiah Banda is facing criminal charges of stealing oil from Nigeria. During the last presidential elections, Konga did not support any candidate as he did not know who would win. But the people in his constituency voted for Hakinde Hichilema almost hundred per cent.
In late 2011, the Task force on corruption seized some properties belonging to former Energy Minister Kenneth Konga which he acquired through corruption as Minister of energy under Rupiah Banda. Later when he was interrogated by police, he collapsed in fear.
The properties include semi-detached flats on plot number 50 E in Kabulonga along Sable road, a hotel on plot number 30778 along Dedani Kimathi road and a bull dozer – G9G.
Police Spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela also revealed that Konga has been warned and cautioned by a combined team of Zambia Police, Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- and Anti-corruption Commission-ACC.
Kanjela said Konga is being investigated on allegations of abuse of authority of office.
Later on may 29, 2012, Kenneth Konga collapsed at the offices of the Joint Government Investigations Team (JGIT).
This was confirmed in a press statement by JGIT Public Relations Officer, Namukolo Kasumpa. Mrs Kasumpa in her statement said that the “ JGIT did summon former Minister of Energy and Chavuma West Member of Parliament Hon Kenneth Konga who was accompanied by his lawyer Mr. Sakwiba Sikota for an interview at the Former Task Force Offices in Woodlands.”
