Traders, Sampa defy Lusambo’s order to demolish Malata market

Traders at Malata Market in Kabulonga have vowed to protest against Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo for ordering the demolition of the settlement.

The traders have accused Mr. Lusambo of selling the land to investors who now want to develop the area.

Kabulonga ward 16 Information And Publicity Secretary Philip Kalumbi says the minister should not create confusion but find better solution.

Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa says though the settlement is illegal, an alternative site has to be found before evicting the residents.

But Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has objected to the eviction of traders and occupants of Malata area in Kabulonga.

Mr. Sampa says the PF is anchored on pro poor policies and does not believe in making such decisions before finding an alternative place for the people.

He further says management did not consult him over impending demolishing exercise.

Last month, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo in company of directors declared the settlement unfit for human habitation hence must be demolished.
