Liato was serving a two year jail sentence after the Supreme Court upheld his two year jail sentence by the Lusaka magistrate’s court for being in possession of k2.1 million Kwacha reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwin Lungu said the continued pardoning of former ministers was sending a wrong signal that crime and corruption paid as long as one supports the government.
