Transparency Zambia condemns arbitrary deportations of PF political opponents

Transparency International Zambia has castigated government for conducting arbitrary deportations in what President Michael Sata is turning into a one party state by ejecting his perceived opponents of foreign decent.

TIZ president Reuben Lifuka said the PF government should be ensuring they do a strong due diligence to avoid the embarrassment of reversing deportation orders.

He said his organization had noted with regret that government had been arbitrary deportating even before conducting any due diligence.

Lifuka said government should understand that even deportees had human rights as opposed to a certain ruling class that is only eager to execute executive powers.

Government has reversed the deportation of the Rwandese Catholic priest, Viateura Banyangandora and declared that he is free to come back to Zambia if the Church still needs him.

There are other foreign investors like officials at Zambezi Portland that have been deported without respecting their human rights for merely being perceived to be opponents of Finance Bank owner Rajan Mathani – a major PF funder.

Home Affairs Minister, Edgar Lungu recently claimed the revocation of the deportation order for Fr Banyangadora followed consultations with various members of the Catholic Church and was in line with “the Bible teachings to forgive one another in the love of Christ.”
