The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested twin brothers for possessing over US$54,000 dollars counterfeit notes.
DEC spokesperson John Nyawali confirmed the arrest of Joseph Mwape and his brother Evans Mwape. The two brothers were arrested from Chawama Township in Lusaka when they attempted to sell the counterfeit notes to some people.
The notes were in hundred dollar bills.
And the DEC has seized 6.5 tonnes of cannabis and 71 people arrested countrywide in connection with the psychotropic substance.
Among those arrested is a 31 year old peasant farmer of Kamoto village in chief Chinunda’s area in Chipata for cultivating five tonnes of fresh cannabis.
Zakeyo Nkhoma intercropped the cannabis with maize and cotton plants to avoid detection.
Others arrested together with Nkhoma is his wife Misozi who had also cultivated 400 kilograms of the psychotropic substance.
And a 27 year old man of Kitwe was arrested for trafficking in crack cocaine.
Lloyd Zulu, a resident of Chimwemwe Township was found with five rocks and 11 sachets of cocaine after conducting a search at his house.
Zulu hid the cocaine in the chest drawer of his wall drop.
He becomes the fifth person to be arrested in Kitwe in the last 30 days for trafficking in cocaine.
