Two people now sacrificed in Katete, Eastern province

Two people have died while 18 others have been injured in a road traffic accident in Chief Mban’gombe’s are in Katete district in Eastern Province.

And more than K300, 000 has been stolen from a Chipata money changer.

ZANIS reports that Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the incident in a telephone n interview in Katete District, today.

Mrs. Chipalila said that the accident happened when the driver of Mercedez Benz truck registration ABG4785, Postman Banda, failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle due to over speeding.

She  said the two dead victims, Alice Lungu 1 and Levy Ngoma 29 both of Yambani village in Chief Mban’gombe’s area died as they fail off the vehicle when it swerved while the others were injured.

She disclosed that the bodies of the deceased are laying at St. Francis Mission Hospital adding that the 18 are also admitted to the same hospital.

Mrs. Chipalila said the driver of the truck which was carrying 35 passengers has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving contrary to the laws of Zambia.

The Provincial Police chief said that most of the passengers were women with goods were on their way to take their maize to Azale Kaceka taking them to the harmer meal.

In a related incident, Mrs. Chipalila has disclosed that cash more than K300, 000 has been stolen from a Chipata money changer.

Mrs. Chipalila said armed robbers over the weekend around 21 hours got the cash K330, 000 from Doubt Mwanza 43, of Magwero plots   before assaulting him.

The robbers later drove away with his Toyota vehicle registration ALK 2648.

She has since appealed to business people to be security cautious whenever they are doing business especially during late hours.
