Under pressure Chibesakunda allows Masebo tribunal on ZAWA

Embattled Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda has finally succumbed to pressure and has since allowed the formation of the tribunal to investigate Tourism and Arts Minister Silvia Masebo.

The Acting Chief Justice delivered the letter to Masebo’s appointing authority Michael Sata on Friday a State House source has told the Zambian Watchdog.

When contacted for a comment, former Tourism Minister in the MMD government who is the Petitioner in the matter William Harrington has confirmed the development.

Mr. Harrington said he has since received the letter from Acting Chief Justice appointing the tribunal to be headed by Livingstone Judge Roydah Kaoma.

Others on the tribunal are Judge E. Mukulamatiyo Livingstone High Court Judge and Chalwe Mchenga who is Lusaka High Court Judge who is also former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“Yes I can confirm that the for the purpose of conceding to my complaints the Acting Chief Justice has written to me authorising the setting up of the tribunal to probe honourable Masebo. She has not set up the date because I think it is the preserve of the tribunal” he said.

Last month Lusaka High Court Judge Dominic Sichinga ruled that the Acting Chief Justice erred in denying Harrington’s petition for the tribunal because all she needed was to receive the petition.

Harrington wants Masebo investigated under the Parliamentary Code of Conduct on how she has been handling issues at the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA).

Going by intra-PF game, this means that team GBM has won because Masebo belongs to team Wynter Kabimba.
