UNZA students told to buy new expensive gowns or stay home when classmates are graduating

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 01.05.54The University of Zambia says graduates   who won’t afford to purchase one of its newly designed gowns will not be allowed to attend the graduation ceremony this year.

The University has redesigned its academic dress including gowns and hoods and this new attire will be unveiled during the graduation ceremony sometime in the last quarter of the year.

A gown for undergraduate students has been perked at K1, 650 while hiring the same dress just for a day will cost K1, 320. A gown for students graduating with diplomas will cost K1, 065 while hiring the same just for a day will cost K850.

Students graduating with a Master’s degree will have to buy the gown at K1, 860 or hire it for a day at K1, 490 if they want to attend the ceremony.

A circular by UNZA makes it clear that only students who will purchase the new academic dress will be allowed to attend the graduation ceremony.
