University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) president Ali Tunkara on Thursday evening tried to kill himself when he heard that the police were going to his room to arrest him over theft of K50 million.
UNZASA was given K50 million (before rebasing) as part of the Munali Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to implement some projects within the university premises.
But Tunkara aand two of his union officials ‘chewed’ the money. Tunkara even opened a personal account where he deposited the money. According to UNZA sources, Tunkara even forged the signature of the Dean of students during the process of misapplying the money.
Two of his colleagues were arrested on Thursday but when the police went to his Tunkara’s room to arrest him, they found his gasping for air while vomiting.
The police immediately rushed him to UTH where he is still admitted but in police handcuffs.
