The opposition UPND has adopted a Rosemary Mwiche as their candidate for the next month Mansa by-election .
UPND Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba revealed that Ms. Mwiche was adopted ahead of other candidates, who applied for the seat because she is a very popular candidate and is a local person.
“We have no doubt that she will carry the day for the UPND and increase the number of women parliamentarians in Zambia,” he said.
So far the ruling PF have adopted Dr. Chilufya, a man they claimed was a thief during the 2011 election when he stood under the MMD.
The MMD are yet to adopt as they are still searching for a candidate while FDD is also interested in contesting the seat but still looking for a candidate.
MMD chairperson for elections, Kenneth Chipungu has told ZNBC in a telephone interview from Mansa that his party fears to announce its candidate in advance.
He says the name of its candidate will be disclosed a day before nominations which takes place on Tuesday October 22nd, 2013
The Mansa Central seat fell vacant following the death of PF and Information Minister, Kennedy Sakeni after a long illness.
