United Party for National Development (UPND) has advised Citizen Forum Executive Director Simon Kabanda to desist giving statements on behalf of his organization concerning the constitution-making process.
Party Secretary General Winston Chibwe told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that as a member of the Technical Committee on the constitution-making process, it is wrong for Mr. Kabanda to continue issuing statements on the process as Citizen Forum Director but as a member of the Technical Committee.
Mr. Chibwe stated that this if not stopped will compromise his position as a member of the Technical Committee entrusted to come up with a constitution of the country.
He said Mr. Kabanda should wait for the final report which would be submitted to the Zambian people before he starts representing his non-governmental organization.
Mr. Chibwe said if the latter fails to adhere to his party’s advice, the constitution-making process will be seen to be unfair and biased.
He said the path Mr. Kabanda has taken to comment on the constitution-making process as Citizen Forum Director is dangerous and that it should be condemned by all well-meaning Zambians.
But when contacted for a comment Citizens Forum Executive Director Simon Kabanda denied allegations that his Non Governmental organization will be involved in matters of the constitution-making process.
Mr. Kabanda, who is also spokesperson of the Technical Committee on the drafting of the republican constitution, explained that during a radio programme in Kitwe recently, he spoke on matters concerning the constitution-making process as Committee spokesperson.
He described allegations by the UPND as false and malicious.
