UPND backs MMD in Northwestern local govt election

Two candidates from opposition Movement for Multi – Party Democracy (MMD) and Patriotic Front (PF)
yesterday successfully filed in their nominations for local government by-elections for Mapachi/Chinyingi ward in Zambezi West constituency.

MMD aspiring candidate for Chinyama Chilila was the first one to file in his nomination at around 12:20hours while his PF opponent, Isaac Mwila filed his nomination at around 13:40 hours.

United Party for National Development (UPND) will not field their own candidate but have promised to support the MMD candidate.

This exercise was witnessed by the Provincial Local Government Officer, Nixon Nkwapu and the District Elections Officer, Kennedy Kazanda

The nomination exercise was peaceful and the Returning Officer, Musangu Chinyama declared Mr. Chilila and Mwila as the successful candidates as the exercise closed at exactly 15:00 hours.

The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Mr Mwila from the  MMD last year and joined the ruling PF.
