UPND calls for intensive training for the Under 17 Girls team

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has urged government and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to adequately prepare the Under 17 girls national soccer team ahead of next year’s FIFA world cup tournament.

UPND Chairperson for Youth Affairs Likando Mufalali urged FAZ and government to ensure that the team is adequately prepared so that it does not end up being a mere participant but a competitor with the aim to win the championship.

In a statement made available to ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today, Mufalali has since congratulated the Shepolopolo for being the first women football team in the country to qualify to the major women’s championship.

Mufalali further said his party will continue to promote investment in various sports disciplines as one way of creating employment for the youths.

After a 3 all draw in Lusaka two weeks ago, the Under 17 side stunned their host South Africa 3-1 on Sunday at Bidvest stadium in Johannesburg to qualify 6-4 on aggregate to next March’s FIFA Under 17 world cup to be hosted by Costa Rica from 15th March to April 5.

Meanwhile, Mufalali has also congratulated Nkana Football Club for winning the 2013 FAZ/MTN super league which adds to the club’s record of having won the tournament 12 times.

Nkana who finished the super league on 59 points sealed their record 12th title with a 4-1 demolition of Red Arrows in the final fixture of the season at Nkana stadium in Kitwe.
