UPND declares July 15th Black Friday

imageFollowing the violence last week in which two UPND supporters were shot and killed, with several more seriously wounded, the UPND is calling for Friday 15th July to be designated “Black Friday”.

UPND President candidate Mr. Hakainde Hichilema explained “We are asking people to wear black this Friday to stand in solidarity with the UPND supporters who were killed for campaigning peacefully.”
He further explained “This initiative will bring us together in a way that respectfully marks the terrible cost that has been borne by these young people and their families.”
“It will send a peaceful but strong message to those in power that we will not let such incidents divide us as a nation and we will not let such injustice pass without notice. So for that reason, whatever your party of choice come 11th August 2016 please join us on Friday 15th July in solidarity with those killed for no crime other than supporting an opposition party by wearing black.”
Commenting after Mapenzi’s burial on Monday 11th the UPND leader said “Mapenzi was not the first of our supporters to be killed for the crime of being a UPND supporter, but she should be the last.”
