UPND disappointed with biased ZNBC but IBA claims all is well

United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president for politics Dr Canisius Banda has expressed sadness at the biased manner in which the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) was covering campaigns for next month’s elections.
But Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Josephine Mapoma has said that the IBA was happy with the conduct of the media so far.
Speaking when he featured on Radio Phoenix on Monday morning, Dr Banda lamented that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was hardly seen on ZNBC TV yet the station was a public institution.
‘You hardly see the face of Hakainde Hichilema on ZNBC, that station is for the public, this is part of the rigging process,’ Dr Banda charged.
He said the playing field is not level because for a long time now UPND leaders have been harassed and denied the chance to interact with people by the PF.
But Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Director General, Josephine Mapoma has said that the IBA was happy with the conduct of the media so far.
Mapoma claimed that the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has ‘observed’ that the broadcasting industry has so far exhibited professionalism in the run up to the August 11th General elections.
The IBA has however ignored the fact that ZNBC has blacked out opposition parties from their news especially the UPND which they only cover in the negative.
And Dr Banda has challenged President Lungu to walk the talk by bringing violence to an end because it was his responsibility to maintain peace in the nation.
He charged that many people will shout Lord Lord but will not see the Kingdom of God adding that hypocrites and charlatans may claim to be God fearing but they are known by what they do.
President Lungu has called for a national ‘Day of prayer’ through his hired Pastors but his cadres have already launched attacks and insults against people who are not willing to join the ‘prayers’.
