UPND drags Solomon Jere to court as Milupi says police are now prostitutes of PF

The opposition UPND is Monday morning (today) expected to start contempt of court proceedings against Lusaka Police Commissioner, Solomon Jere for blocking the the Kanyama rally yesterday.

UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema, said the party would seek a judicial redress over the matter.

And ADD president Charles Milupi charged that police officers have become prostitutes of the ruling PF party.

He said police officers have continued to side with the ruling PF instead of being objective and professional.

And Mr Milupi has reminded Solomon Jere to bear in mind that ghosts of people he pioneered to be killed in Mongu, Western province, will haunt him.

He said it is clear that Dr. Jere killed innocent Zambians in Western province on 14 January last year.

The opposition leaders were speaking during a press briefing at UPND party secretariat following the action by the police to seal off the rally venue.

There have been conflicting statements from government and the police as to why they could not allow the Kanyama rally yesterday despite a court order.

Police said they could not allow the rally because of the football match that was held in Ndola on Saturday, while Defence Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba said the rally could not be allowed because of seditious materials.

Acting chief government spokesperson, Fackson Shamenda, said government had no hand in the cancellation of the rally while Attorney General Mumba Malila, changed his mind and  claimed the court order was defective as it was saved to his son outside working hours.
