UPND Candidate Watson Lumba got 5669 MMD’s candidate Albert Chifita got 4457 FDA’s Muhammad Kalela 189, and Thomas Kafula who stood as independent managed to get 51 votes.

The UPND  was backed by the PF under their electoral pact

The Solwezi central seat fell vacant following the death of the Member of Parliament Ben Tetamashimba who was also the Local Government and Housing Minister.

Results for the local government elections are expected this morning but indicators are that the MMD has suffered heavy losses even at that level.
