The opposition UPND will kickstart its nationwide campaign rallies and meetings this Saturday 15th November 2014 in Kanyama’s Twashuka grounds to be addressed by party president Hakainde Hichilema.
The following day on Sunday, the party has scheduled for another rally in Kafue’s Solobon Grounds.
UPND Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba disclosed that notifications for all the planned rallies and meetings have already been made to the police.
Simusamba said these were rallies that were planned a long time before the death of president Michael Sata.
“If you remember, the Kanyama rally was cancelled by the PF police brutality sometime back. So this is nothing new really as we strongly believe the people of Lusaka and Kanyama need to hear our message. We are appealing to all peace loving Zambians to turn-up in numbers at Twashuka grounds in Kanyama and hear the message of hope from the UPND, and party leader Hakainde Hichilema who is the party’s candidate in the forth-coming presidential by-election,” Simusamba disclosed.
And police sources revealed that they received the UPND notifications for the same rallies on time and have since given a go ahead for the meetings.
“Yes we received the notifications on time from the UPND to hold the rallies in Kanyama and Kafue this weekend and we have given a go ahead. If fact, the party had planned for these rallies even before the death of president Michael Sata. We just reached a compromise that they hold on until the mourning and burial of president Sata,” said a police source.
