UPND wins Livingstone

New MP Sikwela

United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Livingstone Constituency seat with 11, 979 votes with a landslide margin

Returning officer Elester Hazinji declared Reverend Howard Sikwela at 02:36 hours this morning as the duly elected candidate at the civic.

Reverend Sikwela%u2019s closest rival Patriotic Front (PF%u2019s) Josephs Akafumba polled 8,318.

Other contesting the by-elections, all independents were Soko Zondwayo who polled 39 votes, Mwanza Joseph with 95 votes while Steven Zulu had 119

Most Opposition political parties such as the MMD did not field in a candidate and opted to support the UPND.

And Reverend Sikwela after winning the Livingstone parliamentary by election thanked the electorate that voted for him and promised to work for the people

Meanwhile UPND has returned Mosi-ou Tunya ward with Ziwa Ziwa and the Patriot front also have the returned Akapelwa ward with Fred Sikazwe emerging winner.

And UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema described the election of Reverend Sikwela as an act of democracy and the will of the people winning.

The Livingstone seat fell vacant after it was nullified by the Livingstone High court citing electoral malpractices.
