The United Party for National Development (UPND) has adopted its losing 2006 parliamentary candidate Captain Cosmos Moono as its candidate for the Chilanga by-elections.
Captain Moono was UPND’s Chilanga MP from 2001 to 2006 before he lost the seat to MMD’s Ngandu Magande in 2006.
UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma announced during a media briefing today that they are confident that Captain Moono will steer the opposition to victory this time around.
He stated that it is clear that the MMD did not win the last elections in 2006 because there was rigging involved.
Mr. Kakoma says the MMD should expect a shock this time around in the Chilanga by-elections.
And Capt. Moono says the UPND/PF pact is now aware of the ruling party’s tricks stating that it will be very difficult for them rig this time.
He says the two parties have studied how the ruling party managed to dribble the last elections.
Captain Moono has since expressed confidence that the UPND/PF pact through his candidature will scoop the Chilanga seat.
He has since thanked the pact for picking on him to be its candidate for the by-elections slated for this month end.
