UPND NEC resolves to ditch PF

The United Party for National Development (UPND) executive Committee has resolved to withdraw from the pact with the Patriotic Front.
The Watchdog has been informed that the UPND NEC met at the party secretariat late Thursday afternoon and unanimously resolved to end the pact.
The meeting which was chaired by party president Hakainde Hichilema also resolved that Hicilema will stand as party presidential candidate this year.
The NEC based its meeting on a letter which was written by PF leader Michael Sata to Hichilema saying that he will have nothing to do with the a pact.
UPND sources say that the NEC has directed the secretariat to respond to Sata and tell him that the UPND also has nothing to do with him.
Sources say that the UPND also declined calls to work with the ruling MMD.
According to sources who attended the meeting, no one even raised the question of working with the MMD.
