UPND reschedules card renewal exercise following u-turn by State House

Amos Chanda

UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has confirmed the rescheduling of its card renewal exercise which was planned for today at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre to a later date to be announced.
The PF police had blocked the programme claiming that the security situation in the country was not safe.
However after wide condemnation of Lungu’s dictatorial gymnastics, State House turned round and issued a statement through Lungu’s mouth piece Amos Chanda that the police had been overruled and the UPND was free to go ahead with its program.
But UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka has told the media today that the programme will be held on a later date to be announced and further charged that he suspects the Police had orders from ‘above’ to stop the UPND from holding its card renewal exercise and thanksgiving ceremony at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross because they have no right to stop people from peacefully gathering.
The PF Police had stopped the UPND from proceeding with the event but State House u-turned under condemnation and ordered the police to allow the UPND to proceed with their programme.
