UPND rubbishes Standard Bank prediction on 2011 polls

The United Party for National Development (UPND)has rubbished the prediction poll by the standard bank stating that MMD will emerge victorious in this year’s general elections with President Rupiah Banda at the helm.

The bank has also said Zambia’s current investment-led economic boom would be sustained despite the general elections the country would hold this year.

In its January 2011 African Economic Report, Standard Bank predicted that the Zambian economy would remain stable and the elections would not disrupt the growth path.

The report dubbed ‘Corporate and finance banking: African markets reviewed’, also predicts the real electoral battle in Zambia would be between the ruling MMD and the Patriotic Front (PF) as the opposition’s pact with United Party for National Development (UPND) seemed to be falling apart.

But UPND spokesperson says that it is totally a false analysis with a hidden agenda.

He wonders how a financial institution would go political and analyze issues that are not reflecting on ground.
