UPND sets date for demos against acting Chief Justice

The opposition United Party for National Development has written to the Zambia Police Force on their intention to hold a peaceful demonstration on the continued stay in office of Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda.

Party leader Hakainde Hichilema said the UPND would give the police a benefit of doubt as the opposition grouping had followed the laid down procedure in notifying the police.

And Lusaka Province police commissioner Joyce Kasosa confirmed receipt of the letter but said she was still studying it.
“Our protest will be held on Wednesday 21st August from10:00 hours to 12:00 hours at the Supreme Court grounds,” the letter reads in part.”Our proposed route is from our party secretariat onProvident Street, to Broads Road through to Bwinjimfumu Road, through to ChurchRoad through to Independent Avenue to Supreme Court Grounds.”
