UPND settles for female Speaker?

By Memory Nyambe

Information reaching Diamond TV is that the ruling United Party for National Development Alliance is keen on settling for a female Speaker of the National Assembly.

Speaking after taking oath, Mazabuka Member of Parliament Gary Nkombo says the proposed candidate is so far unopposed.

Mr. Nkombo say the UPND is hopeful that once all processes are finalized, the nation may have the first ever female speaker.

And Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo says settling for a woman will give more credence to the general election.

She says the female fraternity will be happy as only 20 women scooped seats out of 155 constituencies.

Some of the names being proposed are Lusaka lawyer Nellie Mutti and former first deputy speaker Catherine Namugala.

Meanwhile, Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo and his counterpart from Matero, Miles Sampa have pledged to work with the UPND government to propel development.
