The United Party for National Development (UPND) is likely to adopt Muyunda Ililonga, Executive Director of Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) as its candidate for the parliamentary bye-election in Luena.
The Watchdog has been reliably briefed by UPND insiders that Ililonga is the front-runner in the processes that have been done so far.
His main contender to the adoption in former Lusaka mayor and FDD Mandevu MP Patricia Nawa.
But sources have indicated that Nawa is not doing well so far as she has lost the primary elections held in Western province.
When reached for confirmation on his mobile number, Ililonga could neither deny nor confirm that he applied to be adopted.
“I am not allowed to discuss that matter with the media,” said Ililonga.
“You could have heard what you heard but what am saying is that I am not allowed by the party to discuss that particular matter with the media”, said Illilonga when pressed to state who has stopped him from talking to the media.
UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma denied, like he usually does, having any information on the people who applied to stand on his party.
“I am in Lusaka me. I didn’t go to the primaries in Mongu so I don’t know anything about that’, said Kakoma.
