The UPND Friday afternoon resolved not to field a candidate in the Mufumbwe parliamentary by-election.
The UPND has instead decided to let the MMD put forward a candidate as way of friendship.
On Its Facebook page, the UPND posted the following:
“There comes a time when even when everything says yes about you but you take that bold decision and say no,” a statement from UPND sources states, adding;
“There are times in life when you let off the ego in you and do something good for a friend just to make that friend happy.
“This is such a time for UPND when we have to let MMD field a candidate in Mufumbwe when deep down in our hearts we know that we would have got it whitewashing both PF and MMD.”
The seat fell vacant after MMD expelled Steven Masumba from the former ruling party for indiscipline.
The election is set for November 8 while campaigns start after nomination on October 11.
