The UPND will hold a peaceful demonstration against corruption and in support of the work of the Financial Intelligence Centre.
And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says Zambians must open their eyes, join hands and be part of a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with the Financial Intelligence Centre.
Addressing journalists at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka, Hichilema directed his party’s secretariat to write the police for a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
The FIC has come under sustained attacks from PF and agents who are calling for the disbandment of the Board for alleged professional misconduct. The Centre recently released a 2017 Trends Report outlining massive plunder of national resources.
Hichilema underscored that the UPND “100 per cent” supported the FIC because it was doing a good job, “not just in this report but even the 2016 report”.
“Only the corrupt will be against the Financial Intelligence Centre. Since the PF is against the Centre, we can conclude that the PF is corrupt, isn’t it? It is true that the PF is corrupt. Like violence, the PF is the breeder of corruption. I plead with you Zambians [to] reclaim your rights. Since those you have elected, wrongly or rightly, are stealing from you, put your foot down – nobody will do it for you. I have noticed most people are saying ‘where is UPND’ or ‘what is UPND doing?’ Fellow citizens, complacency and fear have overtaken this society but we can’t live like that. I’m asking Zambians to open to their eyes to what is going on,” Hichilema said.
